Today it’s good to hear about the Qal’at al-Bahrain from our friend over at Adbenturera
The Qal’at al-Bahrain (in Arabic: قلعة البحرين, also known as the Bahrain Fort or Fort of Bahrain and previously as the Portugal Fort (Qal’at al Portugal) is an archaeological site located in Bahrain, on the Arabian Peninsula. Archaeological excavations carried out since 1954 have unearthed antiquaries from an artificial mound of 12 m height containing seven stratified layers, created by various occupants from 2300 BC up to the 18th century, including Kassites, Portuguese and Persians. It was once the capital of the Dilmun civilization and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. (Reference:

)
The fort is located on the Bahrain Island, in Karbabad, after the Seef Business District. Aside from access inside the Fort, there is also a museum near the site which houses preserved artifacts, historical time line information as well as a modern coffee shop.
I recommend you go visit in the afternoon so it won’t be scorching hot (in mid summer especially). First go though the exhibits in the museum, then start walking to the site, it will take you at least an hour or two for exploring and then catch the lovely sunset… then wait for the night lights which for me was really dreamy… It’s a lovely view while having a cuppa at the outdoor cafe…. = )
You can learn more at the UNESCO website.

Thanks for sharing—I always wonder whether the Middle east/Arabian Peninsula is an area I will ever get to, so this is a great way to learn vicariously

Hey Viv, I completely agree, its a very different world so great to hear about it. I believe Bahrain is supposed to be a more relaxed place than most of the Middle East, it would be exciting to visit one day! Theresa
